i.LON 10 Firmware Update
Instructions
4.1. Get the version 2.0.28 firmware by running the Setup.exe
found on the CD, or download the latest version from http://www.echelon.com/downloads/.
4.2. Update the routing table of your PC by executing the
following at the command prompt: "route add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0
%computername%"
4.3. Do a Security Access Reset (SAR) as described in the
quickstart guide on the CD. To avoid IP address conflicts and
configuration by another user, use a cross-over cable directly connected to
both your PC and the i.LON 10
while in SAR mode.
4.4. Point your browser to the i.LON 10 (192.168.1.222/config/ after Security Access Reset).
The default username/password pair is "ilon/ilon".
4.5. Click the firmware update link on the i.LON 10's configuration web page, and
select the "Update Firmware" button.
4.6. Open a command prompt and upload the latest firmware (you
downloaded it in step 5.1) to the i.LON 10. The command line is:" tftp -i
192.168.1.222 PUT C:\Program Files\Echelon\iLON 10\iLON
10\Firmware\Eethlonb20028.hex ilon". This operation may take a
couple of minutes to complete. Wait for the DOS prompt to reappear before
proceeding to the next step.
4.7. Perform a Security Access Reset.
4.8. Point your browser to the i.LON 10 (192.168.1.222/config/ after security access reset).
4.9. Note that the web pages look slightly different.
Verify that the current firmware version reads “2.00.28” on the Status
page. (http://192.168.1.222/status/)
4.10. Click the security link
to get to the security page. This page is only visible after security
access reset when the “Allow access to secure pages without Security Access
Reset (SAR)” option is disabled. After you reboot, the link may no longer
be available. Check the box to allow HTTP access, scroll to the bottom of
the page, and click the Save and Exit button.
4.11. Follow the link
supplied in the web page (username/password pair is still “ilon/ilon” unless
you changed it). Note that now that the i.LON 10 has been reset, access to the security page is no
longer available.
4.12. Click setup and provide
the IP address you will use for subsequent access. Click the Save &
Exit button.
4.13. Clean up the routing table of your PC by executing the
following command at the command prompt:
route delete 192.168.1.0
4.14. The i.LON 10 is now ready to use. Follow
the steps in the quick start guide to connect to your LONWORKS network through the i.LON 10.
5. Known
Problems and Workarounds
Some of the i.LON 10 web pages references are
inaccessible when the i.LON 10 IP Address is
translated by a NAT firewall. This means that if the i.LON 10 is installed with a
NAT-translated IP address, HTTP access to some i.LON web pages from outside the firewall may require the
terminating slash “/” character. For example, the address http://<IP ADDRESS>/config may not be accessible to PCs located outside of the
firewall. However, external users will still be able to access the web
pages at http://<IP ADDRESS>/config/.
WORKAROUND: When accessing the i.LON from outside the
firewall, make sure that the web reference page includes the trailing slash,
“/”.
